No duet tonight. A GREAT SET! Locked was by request from the crazy folks from Maine.
After the show I asked Paul about Fiddler's on this tour and he said he'd never heard it mentioned and never thought to bring it up. They've only played it once he said so it wouldn't be one that would just pop up. When I asked Gord D. he didn't think it would come out.
Gord thought the shows would be tiring, but he's energized and excited how well they've been going. Both of the guys like the diversity and again tonight we've got a new batch of great tracks (bringing up that average from 49% of the catalogue! :-)
Everyone is looking forward to the Friday night show in NYC!
Oh, also, Paul said that in Rochester Gord S. had the whole show laid out prior to the show, but in Syr & Albany the 2nd set was created during intermission (for those who asked the other day).
Gordon C. & crew - great to hang with you, had a blast!
That's my report - hope ya all enjoyed, now I'm getting some sleep, I'm still spinning from the Syr show, not to mention tonight! :-)
Brad
PS-to the folks who bought the 8th row tickets from me - if you're on
the list, I hope you enjoyed the show!!

WOW! Not quite sure how to begin this note! You will
not believe this but by request of Fran and Sonny the Hip played Locked
In The Trunk Of A Car tonight for us. Before the show Gord Sinclair
talked with Fran and Sonny and asked them if they had any special request
for tonight and they both replied Locked In The Trunk Of A Car. So
near the end of the 2nd set Gordie says This is by request and into Locked
they went. We could not believe our ears!! This made the long
trip from Maine well worth it! Thanks GUYS!!!! What another
great show tonight! This has just been an unbelieveable 3 days with
the Tragically Hip. We are sitting in our hotel room in Albany and
trying to digest what has taken place over the last 3 days. We have
met all the band, got all their autographs and tonight got the one song
we so badly wanted to hear and to have Gordie say by Request just blew
us away. We hung out after the show to thank the band for playing
Locked for us. I could go on and on but will just run
down the setlist and let the video and CD's of the show we have coming
speak for themselves.

Rory,
Here's my take on last night's show at the Palace:
It's beyond my ability to formulate a setlist. With this new format they play so much material that it's hard to piece together. Overall, last night was another incredible performance. Some of the highlights (for me anyway) included 100'th, Courage, Emperor Penguin, NOIS, Locked (thanx to the request from the "Maniacs" w/ the bananas), Completists (again dedicated to Michel Trudeau "Some have said that when a father helps a son they laugh together and when a son helps a father they cry together"), and Fire in the Hole. They played a lot from M@W and PP. Wish we could have heard Nautical or Grace but I'd be an idiot to complain with all that they did put out there.
I don't really like the acoustics at the Palace and thought the band sounded much better 2 months ago at the Webster. I enjoy what Kate contributes but there were times where I was kind of wishing she'd step back and give it over to GS or PL or just let Gord sing.
From my vantage point the crowd seemed very well behaved, almost docile compared to what I've witnessed before. There seemed to be plenty of empty seats around and less "collective energy" that has characterized many other shows. I'd rather have that then have the show stopped though. That's my take on it anyway.
It was hard to pick out some of GD's rants but he had some good intros to a number of songs. He dedicated one song (can't remember which at this point) to the guy who left his hotel room smelling like Aqua Velva? He kind of got lost somewhere in the middle of Twist My Arm but it was pretty comical.
Good to meet you Bob. Thanks for the request. Enjoy the rest of thetour everybody, you're in for a treat.
