Hey folks-
Thought I'd throw y'all a review of the show in boulder,
CO this
past weekend.
My fiancee and I got into the Denver area from Salt lake
City at
around 4 am the day of the show. we crashed at a friend for a
while
and then went over to Red Rocks amphitheater, site of live
recordings/films by many bands, including Dave Matthews Band, Moody
Blues, U2, etc. We were blown away, and there wasn't even a band
performing, it was that beautiful. Red Rocks is situated in a
state
park, so touring the venue is okay on non-show days. we enjoyed
a
picnic lunch right on the stage and decided to head back to denver
for
Blues Traveler on Independence day, feeling like we had to take in
a
show, any show, at theis incredible place.
On to Boulder-folks started showing up in line about
a hlaf hour
before doors, and Paul came strolling by. No one even recognized
except for me and one other guy, and we said Hi to him. Once
the
doors opened, we walked right to the front and stayed parked thru the
trest of the night. BDR was mildly impressive. The girl
my fiancee
and i brought with us decided she thought Jose the singer was hot,
so
she was evidently a bit more impressed than us. The Hip came
on and
opened with something On, and then launched immediately into Fully
Completely. Then came what seems to be the show-stopper of the
night
at every show for me, grace too. an AMAZING version was followed
by a
drop-dead gorgeous version of escape, which I had been dying to see
since Phantom Power came out. The Rules came off remarkably well
also, much better there than at the Denver show six months ago.
A few
suprises-no Springtime, no Nautical. No other major suprises
in songs
that were played, except possibly Cordelia, which I emailed a request
for a few days before the show. After the show, the roadie hooked
me
up with the setlist Gord D read off of, and then we waited around for
the guys to come out for autographs, pics, etc. Rob B came out
first
and I confronted him regarding Skydome. He looked me dead in
the eye
and said "Umm...how did you hear about that???" I told him it
was
"getting around", and he said they have a hold on the building for
the
night, and would love to do something special, some sort of double
bill thing with a band of similar stature. I mentioned rush,
and he
strongly insinuated that rush had come up, but their future was up
in
the air what with Neil's family situation being in disaray, etc. he
also said flatly that there would be no ARA, instead they will be
doing a variety of festivals-woodstock, Detroit, Minneapolis and
denver. Anyone familiar with what these might be, send in some
info!
He as always was very gracious in signing autographs and standing for
photos. I mentioned that my girlfriend and I would be getting
married
in June and my parents live in Bflo, so we would likely head east for
New Years and catch the skydome gig, and he congratualted us and said
"marriage is something I highly recomend". Totally nice guy.
The
rest came out one by one and were equally hospitable. All in
all,
great show, great time.
