WICKED LIGHT SHOW.....
First of all, I was surprised that the Hip actually came to P.E.I., I didn't think that we were on their "favorate place to visit" list. Out of a scale of 1-10, I would rate this concert a 9. The only reason I would not rate it a 10 is because I had already seen them in St. John, NB during the "Trouble in the Henhouse" tour and that concert was increadible, and it seems that they didn't create the same energy in Charlottetown as they did in St. John. Why? I don't know. I could be just me, but I am the biggest Hip fan and I would have to say they can perform better. I beleive that because we are a small Island, and they played in a small arena which holds a Max. of 5000 (if that), they didn't feel the need to put a 100% into it.
On the other hand, what did impress me is the step-dancing session Gord Downie performed, kind of gave us a little reminder of Stompin' Tom, and proves that somebody that huge knows a little something about the Island. The whole concert was a good length, the Hip came back for two encores consisting of 7 songs in total, which is very unusual. They played alot of their older songs which was awsome, and they did an incredible job of " Something On" and " 100th Meridian". One song I wanted to hear but didn't, and which stole the show in St. John, was "50 Mission Cap". By Devine Right was a wicked band, I believe that they have a lot of potential, but of course, they are no Hip. I think some of the bands in Canada don't realize how wicked of a croud we (P.E.I.) can generate if given the chance,we are known to party.
I believe over all it was a very good show, and I hope they come back for their next tour, and those who have not seen it yet, go see it if you can still find some tickets, it is well worth it.
