Got to see the Hip in Winter Park yesterday. They were only given an hour on the bill, which really seemed strange, considering Susan Tedeschi went on after them, and was allotted more time.

Still, they were very good.  Maybe the best I've seen them.  They were definitely into it, and tried to give us all they could, songwise, in the hour they had.

I got to talk to Rob Baker after the show, and he's a nice guy.  You probably all already know this, but he told me they'll be in the studio in September, possibly with a new release in January.

Take it easy,

Winter Park Colorado and the surrounding area is some of  the most beautiful
country I have ever seen.
The little town lives and breathes mountain biking in the summer...freeking
heaven!

The Hip took the stage after a pretty good set by Wes Cunningham.
Forest Ranger Gordie was into the uniform thing again and all smiles.
Gordie was really pleasing the Hip fans with a fabulous monologe with the
opening  tune, Grace Too. The rest of the crowd was kinda like "who the hell
are they?"

"He said I'm tragically hip".....you know the rest

Fully Completely was a groovin'.

They also played Springtime in Vienna. I think that's the tune where Gordie
kept tossing and batting up into the air some sort of rubber looking curly
thing. Looking crazier than shit!..........Dammit I love that guy!

Gift Shop was masterful and was the tune I really wanted to hear since we had
just come from mountain biking the Rim Country near Payson, Arizona.
That too, is very beautiful country. "Out over the rim, it is ice cream to..."
kept going through my mind as we peddled from high up above.

Something on, Fireworks, and Ahead by a Century followed. Gordie fidgiting with
his zipper said "that was so good my zipper came down"

"We're from Europe, so we must be good" Gordie told the crowd.

Gordie introduced the next tune Poets, "cause everybody knows someone who's a
poet."

"Don't tell me how the universe is altered,
when you find out how he gets laid."
Guess he's gotta keep us (the choir) on our toes.

Gordie introduced Steve Berlin from Los Lobos who sat in on Bobcaygeon.
That was EPIC.
Steve played the wind instrument beautifully.

Gord announced that Steve was also from Europe, "so you know he's good."

New Orleans Is Sinking with sax? You bet your arse.
Steve Berlin played an interesting piece for this ever changing anthem.

They ended the set with a blistering Fire in The Hole.
Bobby was going off brother!

The Hip said their thanks and goodbuys while the faithful gave the HIP CHANT.
A final wave and smile from Bobby, and they were gone.

KBCO announced that all of these sets will be played in their entirety next
Saturday and Sunday.

So if anybody in the NG has a buddy in the Boulder-Denver area that can record
this gem...Email me, I'd love to have a copy.

Once again, the radio station is 97.3 KBCO   out of Boulder I believe.

Back to the grind in the desert,
