Trees, Dallas, Texas  October 27th, 1998 review by David via Henhouse mailing list

so we took the volkswagon down to deep ellum and the streets were quiet.
christine and i had plenty of time before the show so we drank some guinness
and played some pool. the derek trucks band walked by.  trees was lit in
green neon and a few people milled around out front.  on the side of trees
was a door that led to the stage.  backstage was outside. we saw vreeken
there. the hip's bus was parked across the street from trees and we
eye-spyed gordie through the front window. i gave a wave and he saluted and
then winked at christine.  there was a small line in front of trees but we
decided to have a few more drinks and get some mexican.  we went in and took
a poster off the wall and drank some shiner bock.   trees is tiny.  the
posts in the room looked like tree trunks. i was thinking. this is going to
be good.  derek trucks set. the band on the pa. hip chant. gordie and the
boys walk in off the street and take the stage. gordie all smiles and looks
around at the crowd which had swelled to full capacity with people from
saskatchewan and kansas.  it began with smiles and immediately the energy
was there and the show was going to special.

before ahead by a century gordie said something to the effect of this is a
song about this place. this is about trees. this is ahead by a century.

the banana made an appearance and gordie said in reference to the numerous
canadian flags being waved and torn in half by the zealots who wanted to
wave it too, this is my flag. it shows no nationalism. it accepts all.

beautiful.
