Wow, this is all too much.  This has really been the week from hell, but it's almost over, and is so worth while.

Let me start with last Tuesday, the great snow day we had.  Wasn't so great for me, my computer crashed.  So, with a term paper due in two weeks, which I hadn't started yet, I had no computer.

Finally got my PC back Wednesday, and started writing the paper using Word for Windows (fun! fun! fun!).  Not a whole lot happening with it on Wednesday, so I put off until Thursday.

I get home after school on Thursday, and am just relaxing, when the phone rings.  "You wanna go to the hip tonight?" the voice asks.  I'm in.

In a feet that I still can't believe, I write about 1200 words in fifty-five minutes.  I meet my buddy at the mall at five, with time to
spare for a slice of pizza (my only food for the day).

We get into Copps and our seats around 7:20 (parked across the road for $5 -- you can't beat that).  In the forty minutes we talk about the Tea Party, the boots we listened to on the way down (parts of the 88 Horseshoe Show, the Nuclear Sub verson of New O, Freaked, and so on), and of course, our predictions for set starters.

8:10 the lights go, and the night begins, and really, I still can't begin to think that I'm actually here.  Even while writing this, I don't think it's sunk in just yet.

Anyway, it was a great show.  Not as good as the December 3 show at the ACC, but few will top that.  Had a cool moment of deja vu after Courage when everyone started going totally nuts again.  What is it about this song?

Surprise of the night had to be The Wherewithal.  No one saw this coming in our section (which had some pretty cool people in it, as hard core as me and my buddy were).

Terrific show.  Can't wait 'till Saturday.  Here's the list.

1-- Music/Grace/Escape/Fully/Down/Gift/Titanic(!)/Lionized(!)/Meridian (With mention of the Coke MachineGlow)/ Spring/ Completists/ Fireworks/Sherpa(!)/Nautical
2-- Wheat/Train/Opiated(!)/Blow/Membership/Fever/IOD/Tiger/Poets/Flamenco/Courage/Long Time/New O/Wherewithal(!)
Enc -- ABAC/50 Mc

See you Saturday

PB

By the way, the essay on how the American President is far too powerful, is just about done, but about 200 words too short.  Oh well.

Man, what an amazing show this was! Our seats were good (acually i don't think there was 1 bad seat in the place) Very nice venue!!! And the sound was spectacular. It was so clear & loud. And i loved the light shows they did for the songs. Such as Tiger The Lion, man that song always gets the mood changing, the lights just go nuts!!!! It was great to hear some songs i haven't heard live before, and also got to hear my favourit tune (50 mission)! Wished they would have played 'Locked'. That would have made my night, with the already good tunes of 100th, blow, NOIS, & 50 mission. I can't wait too see them again, because i will definatly go back to Copps!!! Honestly, i think this venue beats out, when i saw the hip @ Darien Lake P.A.C from 3rd row!!!
A few other things i liked about the show, was Kates vocals on Flamenco, very sweet!! And Chris did a fantasic intro with his keybored (sorry i forget the song now). As for someone recording this show, did they? I tried too look for video camera's, but didn't see any! Ummm anybody audio tape it? Also i saw a few flashes go off, anybody in here take pics???
Well this was a great show, but it's off to Toronto on the 23rd! Can't wait to hear the boys again......

In Hamilton my head rose above the clouds during "Blow at High Dough"...... simply put .....It could have been called "Stand up and come out of your shoes!"...... Balcony, behind the stage and everywhere....this song just escalates..... Not since a Molson Park in Barrie pre 1995..... have I jumped & bounced in-sync with all the others around.....like were all in the same
Zone ?..........
Oh ya ....we were...... My last show this tour.....snuck into Bobby's side again......unlike Sudbury....it was such a vibe to see everyone I looked at mouthing along with Gordie.....every song....new & old...... lighters out....and standing up.....

 The way it should be!

Thanks Hamilton - You Rocked!

Enjoy ACC...I'm heading North for Christmas ....you all have a great next 5 days or so until I ..
Get Back Again.

If you know anyone who has a decent copy of the show, get it.  Now.

What an awesome show.  The sound was absolutely freakin' incredible.  You could make out Gord's rants as clear as day.... Wow.
No Get Back Again, or anything... but Sherpa, Terrarium, IOD, Opiated, Long Time Running, 50MC....
ABAC to start the encore (and they didn't play BobC - can you imagine that... 2 full sets of music, without ABAC or BobC?),
And there's a drum machine loop playing before any members of the band come out on stage... Johnny comes running out
on stage, and does a little dance behind the drum kit, and then sits down and starts playing along with the loop....
Gord was all over the place.  Seemed to be interacting with the Henhouse during IOD, but I'm not quite sure what was going on there....
Anyways... awesome show.  Wow.  It amazes me that I still say that at my 13th show this year....
Oh... and a special 'Hey' to my new friends Danielle and Jen... two crazy girls who spent half the first set with us in section
110, row 3.... they spent most of the show trying to work their way forward... and made it from the back row of the second deck to the 20th row on the floor during the course of the show - and seemingly did so without pissing anybody off.... That takes talent....

This may become more of a rant than a review. but I havent slept in over 24 hours. you'll understand afterwards :)

So, at about 5 o'clock last night, I have a knock at the door, not expecting anyone, I was blown away when I opened the door to find a good friend of mine, holding two tickets to the show, and TELLING me, that I was going. hehe, no complaints here.

So, after a rush, and a near accident, involving an off ramp, slush, my car, and a guard rail, we make it to the train station, board the trail, and we're on our way.  Unfortunatly, we're late. By a bit, and around 7, the train has a 20 minute delay. SHIT. Ok, we may miss a few songs. Ok, thats fine. I am only paying $20 bucks, I cant complain. Think positive.  So finally, after a go train, and bus ride, including a 10 min walk to Copp's, we get in, only to hear Grace, Too, halfway done. SHIT. Seems we missed a song and a half, not bad.

The show was fucking awesome, however Copp's is not  known for their sound. ugh, and their seats. ARGH!!  From what I can remember, the boys (and girl) pulled out some great renditions of Opiated, Lionized, Wherewithal, Inevability of Death, and of course, Wheat Kings, to start off the second set.  I really wish I could remember the whole set, but right now, my mind
is a blur.  The show was one of the better ones Ive seen, aside from the sound. Gordie was his bubbly self, and it just looked like the band was having a load of fun (more than usual).

So, halfway through the second set, I realize. SHIT, this isnt the ACC, we hafta find the Go station, to get back to Burlington to catch the train. Hmm, oh well, fuck it, I was enjoying the show too much. Seems, we missed our train by over an hour. So, after stumbling around the Go Station for half an hour and asking a cab how much it'll be to take us back to Whitby ($150). we realize. We're stuck in Hamilton until 6:14am....almost 7 hours away. What the fuck are we gonna do?!?!

All of a sudden, like a ray of light. I see a pub sign, conviently located across from the station, I believe it's called "The Lionshead" or something to that affect. an EXCELLENT A+++++ pub, filled with great Hip fans. So, we belly up the bar and after 3 pitchers, almost 3 hours, and a few new friends later, we stumbled out onto the bitter cold street and make our way down to Frans, an excellent 24 hour restuarant, where we meet a unique (yet great) bunch of people (2 gay men, a lesbian, and a male crossdresser), and have a great 4 am breakast with them.

So finally, 5:30 comes around, and we thank them for breakfast as we head back down to the station to head home.

I am home now. I havent slept in over 24 hours. I need sleep.

There is a God, and Gordie be thy name. Thank you, good night! :)

Hello, I am Sue
I just wanted to tell you all about my concert experience last night with the Hip in Copps Coliseum ..... OH MY GOD, IT WAS SO GOOD!!!! Gord is just so fucking amazing. He just launched into one song after another, like he was trying to squeeze in as many of their amazing songs as possible, of course you'd need a year to do that!!

I had such amazing seats, 5th row beside the stage, and during the 100th Meridean, Gord pointed at me to where the great plains begin!!! The quality of his voice was SUPERB, and I was especially impressed with his renditions of Flamenco and Long Time Running.  It was the best hip show I have ever been to, and I can't get over the fact that they did two sets, along with such a grueling schedule, they are the absolute BEST BAND in the ENTIRE WORLD!!!
Merry Christmas!!
Sue
==================================================================================
Our five friends did it once again.

It appeared to be "dress down " day during the first set, for Gord D.  But they ripped through the first set with some beauties like Titanic Terrarium... It always makes me smile when I see a bunch of people sit down when one of these rarer ones come along... Call me a music snob or not, but I like the fact that I know every song by the second note.

The second set sound was much better than the first, as was the case in Toronto. I think there were monitor problems right from the beginning, because Chris, Gord S and Robby all kept signalling to turn it up... The second set sound however was sweet.

I wish I could tell you how much I love the craziness of Courage going straight into Long Time Running.... It is amazing that they can bring the crowd up and down that fast... There was the frantic cheers of appreciation after Courage, which still gave me goosebumps, but not like Toronto.

The crowd was great, I love The copps venue and the band was solid all night long.  As mr Downie would say

What a city . what a show ., what a crowd, what a night....

-opened the show with My Music: great
-sherpa was in the first set I think: amazing
-Titanic terrarium was really awesome live
-there was this drunk/high woman in front of me that kept falling down and laughing. It was fucking funny.
-there was this hippy guy who was selling acid I think. He was out of it.
-ABAC was the first song of the encore
-closed the show with 50MC
-opened second set with Wheat Kings
-I bought a long sleeve M@W shirt
-I bought some Hip Rolling Papers for $5. They're taking me for all I'm worth.
-when Membership came on, I was pretty high, so I didn't take notice of what song it was until about halfway through, then I was like "Membership. Nice!" and started rocking out. It was great.
-I'm Putting Down
-Opiated was played. It was awesome.
-Johnny Faye was dancing at his drum kit when they came back for the encore.
-Bobby Baker was sans beard
-4th row was amazing. I was sooo close. It was loud.
-ICQ message just a sec
-stupid girl
-she should send me less messages. Biotch.
-they didn't play Get BAck Again
-Escape is at Hand is always nice to hear. I quite enjoyed it.
-Sherpa was nuts man
-I can't wait til Saturday now.
-I bet that woman is still really drunk and falling down. That's hilarious.
-I wanna hear Greasy Jungle at the ACC
-Inevitability of Death was really good.
-Poets
-Long Time Running was impeccable
-Flamenco was profoundly exhuberating. I'm not really sure if that's a word or not.
-where are you?
-you should have gone to the concert. My mom had an extra ticket taht she sold to my friend for $20
-Grace 2 was the second song. Coincidence? I think not.
-Fully was third
-the lighting was trippy
-Train Overnight is a quality song
-that drunk woman kept laughing and pointing at my friend. She was weird
-concerts rock. I wish I could live at a concert.
-I didn't get the setlist. Sorry.
-the Hip rolling papers have THC in big letters on the front, and it says that THC means The Hip Club on the inside. Pure genius.
-my neck is sore from rocking out so much
-I should go to bed. It's getting late.

See ya later

Hi guys,

I was there and as usual it was a great show...but maybe it was me but there seemed like there was something missing. Maybe it was b/c i was the furthest away from the stage than I ever been, maybe it was the setlist...I came outta the show a little disappointed, I wished they coulda mixed it up a bit more. Many of the songs as well as a few of the rarer songs. IOD, 50MC, were also played @ Toronto #1. There were no real big surprises for me personally, and maybe I was trying to compare it to the Toronoto #1 show from a couple of weeks ago.  I think it will be tough to ever top Toronto #1 show..the setlist, the crowd, the band, everything was great...or maybe it's just that I've been spoiled this year having seen them 5 times this year. I don;t know there just seemed to be something missing.

Again another highlight was the crowd after Courage giving the band another well deserved 1-2 min. standing ovation. It gives you chills to witness such a thing.

All in all another great show by the band. Perhaps my last Hip concert for a long while..but I hope the rumours aren't true. We'll see

Al

Are you fuckin' around or are you workin'? - Gord Downie opening the show Dec 21, 2000 at Copps Colisium Hamilton Ont.

Hamilton was rockin' the crowd was into it huge....many thanks to brothers Dave & Matt again who assisted Jeffro and I into the zone again....the zone was one of the best I've been in....goin' crazy the whole show.....highlights Sherpa was so nice... Titanic....so cool......Opiated ...." medincineman he's seein' red..." how about Wherewithall and Lionized in the same setlist....can they rock out any harder....IOD....Gord staring into the zone mumbling " who are you ..."? to everyone as he screams Terry's Gift...is for evergreen.....it was a very energetic show from both sides....BB was right on as always...slidin' way on Wheat Kings...I got his pick again at the end of the show....not to bad for the short guy in the front.... at 1 point some tossed a Santa hat on stage at GD feet....he looked at it and you see the funny little smirk he nade as envisioned how he look with that on...very funny....50MC to finish,,,sounds better in TO.....see you TO on Sat...Todd

Well, I don't have much time to write anything about last night, but I must say it was one of the greatest times of my life!  I met Gord, Gord, Rob, Paul, Chris and Kate backstage.  My girlfriend and I got our pictures taken with all of them and they were more than happy to sign our poster and pictures!! We left around 1:15.  What a night!! I'll try and write more about it when I have time and I'll get all my pics from the digital camera on my website so everyone can see them!

hmmm. so, of course i didn't bother to leave myself plenty of time to get to the show, so i ended up nearly having a nervous breakdown when we arrived right at 8. this was after some furious driving and much confusion about what the hell "roundabout" meant. turns out its a traffic circle. anyhow, they started a little late, so all was well.
our seats were...interesting. not bad, but certainly not good. we were kind of behind the stage, to the paul/kate side. not good, b/c there was a support beam blocking our view of gord, but pretty awesome that we could see every move johnny made. breaking drumsticks, and not missing a beat, the little dance he did right before the encore(did anyone else see that?)
anyways, the details have all been given. just a couple highlights:
.blow at high dough- i don't know what it was about this version, it knocked my socks off. very cool shit.
.the lights at the end of TTL when johnny's just pounding the shit of his drums. if you've seen it, you know what i mean.
.bobby's leopard print pants-grrrrrowl:)
so, yeah, that was it. my last hip show for a while. god knows how long. i wish i could be in TO with you all tomorrow, but it's not in the cards. alas.
i hope you guys all have a blast. merry xmas, hanukah, kwanzaa, etc.
later,
megs
p.s. what really made my night was finally getting pulled over in canada. i've been trying for years. he couldn't read my liscense plate. didn't seem to matter much when i told i had come from the hip show:)
