Birch Hill Nightclub, Old Bridge, NJ  September 4th, 1998 review by James Knipler via Henhouse mailing list

I, like some of you, have just been hanging out and reading what
everyone has to say about the Hip.  Well, finally I have my two cents to
add.  I finally saw the Hip on this tour, only my 10th time, in Old
Bridge, New Jersey.  I took a friend with me who had only seen them once
and at the 'Aud' in Buffalo on the Day for Night tour. We got there
early and tried to get into the bar to get a beer and they said no, so
we asked how big the place was and they said it held 1500, but only 300
tickets were sold for the show.  I was freaking.  The Hip went on around
11pm and half the crowd was Canadian and the rest just happened to trip
across this Band.  The Hip were incredibly tight compared to what I saw
on Something On the Tragically Hip and they did alot of older songs,
which pleasantly surprised me.  Here is the setlist:
save the planet
fully completely
poets
bobcageon
locked in the trunk of a car
dont wake daddy
membership
scared
something on
fireworks
gift shop
springtime in Vienna
new orleans
escape is at hand...
ahead by a century
vapour trails
100th meridian

By midset the whole place was rocking.  Probably the best Hip show I
have been too.  My friend is now going to drive me to olean, NY to see
them this sat. at St. Boneventure and later in Philly.  Just wanted to
let you know it was a great show and amazing set.  Just mad that I didnt
hear emporer penguin, but I have two more shows to hear it.
