i agree.  amazing show.  wish i could get to more shows on this tour.  a little disappointed by the crowd in the balcony.  i was 3rd row balcony and no one that far up would even stand up other than me!  but the band was great.  gord had some trouble with chagrin (started with the wrong verse, was like 'that's not how it goes', stumbled around for a while, then kate finally sang it).. loved the whole show though.  wow.

the random luck started hours before, when i found out about the interview, then things just got better. meghan was the first to e-mail back about accepting the offer, and i saw her for most of the night, so she will surely have things to add once she gets back to pittsburgh in the morning. when meghan called thursday night, the central park show came up, and she asked how i'd liked it. i told her i sucked and had passed out from sunstroke during jeff healey, after which my friends dragged me to the side to get water. then meghan asked, "WHAT DO YOU LOOK LIKE??" turns out that she was the person standing next to me at the show, second row, helping my friends fan me! to keep the heat off, she'd given me a hair elastic which i'm still wearing to this day!

so we met in front of the town hall at around 5:15pm. the interview was at 5:30. guards wouldn't let us in until bea lorimer came out to give the okay, but from the street we could hear strains of a sound check. after forty-five or so, bea came out and led us through a mess of tunnels to paul. she turned to me and asked, "hey, didn't you interview before?" me: "uhh, yeah." doh! i was sort of hoping she wouldn't remember the last time, as now i'm paranoid about being a stalker interviewer or something.
last time was wetlands, and last time was paul too. ahh well.

the interview was good. won't get into too much detail here, as i'm a rambler and i'll go on about it for screens and screens, but the interview will be aired on wednesday, 5-6pm EST, at www.wbar.org. i'll probably get around to transcribing it at one point and will post it on my site, but that won't be for a while since transcribing's a pain in the ass.

by the way, paul said it's very unlikely that anything will be played off "the baby album" this tour, there's nothing concrete for another hip album in the near future, and gord's album may be out january-ish. paul sang on a couple of songs for it. oh, and the chances of get back again getting onto an album are not likely. paul likes it a lot, they'd tried to put it on up to here and road apples, but they felt the recordings didn't do it justice.

i don't recall too many internal rants during songs, but i'm listening to the whole things again as i write this, so i'll check. before courage, gord said in a really weird voice, something about a costume and chamelons. the whole show seemed very together. i don't know how else to put it. nothing major went wrong, no one was overtly obnoxious, the guys looked like they were having a great time on stage, and the town hall itself was beautiful, with great sound.

after the show, meghan and i were hanging around outside, in case underingrid@aol.com came 'round. then two women came up to us and shoved little flyers in our hands, said "TAKE THESE" and were off. we looked at what they'd given us: BACKSTAGE PASSES.  !!!!

we went in, and we were dorks. what could we say?? everyone there knew each other, like they were old old friends, and the two of us obviously were not. eventually we talked to gord d, gord s, and paul again, and listened in on other people's conversations: johnny faye's girlfriend broke her leg, etc. then, when no one else was left there, we left too....only to run into gord d again on the corner. i swear, we were going that way anyway. gord and chris brown were having problems hailing a cab, and meghan and i were having problems properly hiding behind posts and phone booths, trying to make it look like we were NOT trying to photograph gord downie's cab-hailing in action.

jeeaz this is getting long. my mattress is tempting me. you've heard me go on enough, so i'm leaving anything else to be filled in by everyone else...

insomniacs of the world, goodnight.
