Well I thought SOMEBODY from Phoenix would review the show at the Celebrity
Theatre. Suffer the consequences Phoenix, looks like a Tucsonan is
gonna have
to do your dirty work.
Geeze, we got there at about 6:15...the parking lot was empty except
for a few
(probably the employees) cars. The bar hadn't even opened! (the horror)
We kicked back in the bar for a couple of drinks and decided to go look
at the
merchandise area. I wanted to get one of the (I call them beanies)
knit
stocking hats with the TTH within the NHL logo shield. I know what
you're
thinking "that guy lives in the freeking desert," yeah I'd only get
to wear it
maybe twice a year, but damnit I wanted one!
The merchandise had been depleated to the point that they were down
to the last
article of whatever you were looking for. No beanies available...but
I did
score a very cool Phantom Power baseball cap (one of only two left).
My wife
purchased a very nice long sleeve with the PP logo on it.
After the essential purchases had been made, we headed inside the theatre
to
find our seats, which was fairly easy sinse there was probably a max
of 20
people in there at that point. By Divine Right played a nice short
set. I've
never been to a venue this small, it is something really very
different...almost sterile.
While waiting for the Hip to come on, we talked to some of the fans
around us.
The question of the night was "are you guys from Canada?"
The Canadians (as we) were stoked to be able to attend such an intimate
setting.
Hey Sandi, you're not going to like hearing this, but the three people
sitting
right behind us had just heard of the show that day and went to get
tickets and
were sitting right in front of the stage. You should have gone with
us!
The Hip played a dynamite set on this tiny stage:
Something On
Giftshop
ABAC
Fully
Lionized
Greasy
Grace
Vapour
Cordilia
Blow
Fireworks
NOIS
The Rules
Fire in the Hole
Poets
Courage
Escape
Not too shabby, eh?
There's one more, but I can't make it out.
The band was great, but the lack of attendance sucked!
I know that Tucson and Phoenix have the University skirmish, and that
seems to
carry on in alot of other areas. So at the risk of sounding like a
totally bias
Tucsonan...OK I admit it, I am...the Tucson show at the Fairgrounds
was far
better.
To quote Paul Rodgers" I love the music and I love to see the crowd
dancin' in
the aisles and singin out loud!"
I think that's what Phoenix lacked.
I want to give a shout out to Rory.
My '98 Hip at the West arrived the same day as the Phoenix roadie.
Awesome baby!!
Until next time.....
