Many thanks to all the band members for taking the time to meet and
sign autographs with everyone hanging out back by the buses after the show.
There must have been some 30 people or more that hung out to meet the band.
What a way for all of us to end the evening. We will be back at it
again tomorrow shakin our bananas in Syracuse NY. Fran, Dave and
Sonny even got Gordie to autograph their bananas. Rob Baker went
to sign Dave's banana and commented that this was the first banana that
he had ever autographed. Gordie even drew a bear on Fran's Maine
Hockey Shirt!!!!! Thanks guys..... This is one Evening with the Tragically
Hip that we will all cherish Forever....

hey Rory
just got back from the show at the auditorium center. I
can not put into words what a great show this was from the opening
with grace too.... to show closer little bones I could not have asked
for a better show . they played from 8-11 with about a 20 min break after
an hour then back for another hour . Then encore 3 songs .
There was plenty of tapers there with some very tall mic stands, also saw
some guy video taping .
see ya

The band rocked last night! I woke up singing - There's
this fuckin band you gotta see...they used to scare the living shit
out of me! Lots of old songs and the new ones were great too
some highlights:
inch an hour
greasy jungle
flamenco
long time running
NOIS rocking
don't wake daddy!
wild mountain honey (where was Robert Plant?)
they rocked and Kate sounded good - real good - He vocals were complimentary to Gord's and I felt that they gave a nice rounded sound to the band. - and the crowd liked her too -
Gord Sinclair was incredible - he had such a good time and entertained me throughout the set(s). They played two sets with 20 mins in between - total about 2 1/2 hours - as promised! It was really wonderful! the crowd was great and the venue was a small packed theater - and it sounded incredible! I'll send along some pics - later tonight perhaps - I don't have a setlist - just my memory - but they played everything they always play - and alot of what they don't usually play. ABAC Betty.
wishing I had more sleep and the day off ...jenng

wild mountain honey was definetly not played..................train
overnight was played however and it is definetly the best live version
ive heard so far........it was a little choppy on the first leg of the
tour but it seems they may have worked on it.....also rob baker says look
for get back again down the road on this tour.....NICE!!!!!!!!
=================================================================================
- If this is the 1st show of this leg...."An Evening with..." the Nov/Dec
shows are gonna be amazing!!!
-I've never seen so many tapers video & audio...huge stands , digital
-1 set took a few songs to warm up....and by Fully they were warm....then
comes Pigeon Camera....nice...Courage came at the right time...monster
100th Mrdn
-triple vodka & cranberries upstairs then back to the 7th row!!!
The keyboards were great... Kate's Flamenco was better then Massy...and
the rest of her voice seemed to blend in quite fine. I found myself not
even watching her...but when I did...I really listened because of all the
Bashing on here...(let it go folks)...your in the minority cause
the crowd there ate it up!!!!
-GORD S.. his bass was louder than I\ve ever heard it!! Sounded deadly
- Paul I mentioned was stellar dueing train overnight
-Gord D - I could here his acoustic during New Orleans louder than
I've ever heard it too... sounded fine & to think I didn't really
care to hear NOIS.... & it was one of the better ones I've witnessed....
great tune in the middle....bluesy??? what?
- Bobby rocked as usual......and then some Long time Running took me
by surprise.,......Gord D\s confidence while looking into the crowd seemed
to move outside him!
Greasy Jungle to Save the Planet..to DAddy....and of course Fire in
the Hole!!!
All a great sprinkle from each album.... TIGER still rules as TOP LIVE SONG, lights, keyboards, Gord selling us on the story & Bobby playing hard!!! It's different & I love that!
Most of all I like the split set..... & 1 encore ... it works well!!! lots of songs... a break for the boys to huddle on how there feeling....allows for a really phenominal show!! Glad we did the drive!!

Great show last night. The band sounded tight, and it was nice to hear
a few songs that I'd never seen live before- "Flamenco" "Long-Time", "Pigeon",
etc.
However- with each successive tour, it's becoming increasingly annoying
to hear more and more people singing along with everything. I paid to hear
Gordie sing, and honestly, I couldn't most of the time. He is often changing
things subtely, and adding new phrasing to certain lines, and that was
totally lost in the midst of thousands of people singing along word for
word to the album phrasing. In particular, the drunken idiots singing very
badly at the top of their lungs right behind me made it worse. I mean,
I like to sing along in my car, and I can understand doing that on certain
songs like "Grace, Too", or the chorus of "ABAC" or "NOIS" and things like
that, but man, this was just about every line of every song. Let Gordie
sing!!!!
===================================================================================
HOLY CRAP!!! that was the longest set I have ever seen them play.
I was in awe of these guys, and I've already seen them 9 other times.
This was by far the best concert I have seen. Long Time Running(my
first time seeing that one) was amazing and somewhat unexpected.
100th Meridian was another highlight. But NOIS and Fire in the Hole
took the cake. Whatever song that was in the middle of New O was
amazing. It kind of sounded like Satisfaction. Gordie was in
rare form and Kate( my future wife) was absolutely amazing. Outstanding
show, wish I was going to Syracuse and Albany, but I'm sure I'll hear all
about it.
Set List:
1st Set:

Henhousers....
My review of last nite!!
Well, we got to the Theatre at 6pm after passing the place about 5 times
before realizing that the building we thought was a school was actually
the Auditorium! So, we go in and look around and It reminded me a bit of
Massey Hall, so I was really excited! We go to our 5th row centre seats
and find out that they are going to be some beauties. I am wearing my HIP
CREW 2000 Tshrit (thank you Ebay) and decided I am going to see if
it has any pull. I immediately go down to the designated "ZONE" for
the night and tell the ticket taker that I am with the HIP Crew and I am
bringing some people down to the Zone! He says fine , go right ahead and
I get everyone to come down, sounds really good to me. So, 6 of us
are in the Zone when Grace comes on and we are loving it, then we get das
boot from the Zone because I think this one security gaurd who has seen
me at like 20 Hip shows says he knows I am not with the Hip crew and orders
all of us out. Well, it was fun while it lasted, but back to our
5th row seats which were actually better. The way the Pit was set up ,
the stage was at eye level, so you had a hard time looking up for the whole
show, I for one, would have had a bad neck cramp. But I digress!
We are loving the show and after the intermission me and a buddy go to
the back of the Aud where the band bus and enterance is! I talk to the
security guard for Metropolitan Ent and basically stop dropping some
security names I know, he is kind and says if there is anything after show,
he might let me back! So, we go back to the show, cream my pants
after LONG TIME RUNNING, and proceed to enjoy the rest of the show.
CUT TO AFTER SHOW:
After the show, we go back to the car and have a few beers and talk to some Hip fans. We decide to go hang by the bus to get a chance to talk to the band. As soon as Rob B. comes out, I noticed 3 people walking out from Backstage and to their cars....>I immediatly track them down and put on some really bad sob story! Well, it couldn't have been that bad, because he gave me and my buddy 2 Backstage "Guest" passes that hadn't even been peeled yet. I thank him and proceed to walk down the Backstage enterance as if I was a celeb, strutting and all! We get back there and notice Paul L. talking to some of the crew, I give him a swift nod , and proceed into the Hospitatlity area!
In the Hospitatlity area, there are about 20 people! Among them, Johhny Faye, Gord S. and Jason Wooley, Jason Holland, and Brian Campbell from the Buffalo Sabres. So deciding not to bother the band yet, we talk it up with the Sabres, and I think they were really surprised of my knowledge of the game and their respective games. Then Tony McGenney of Buffalo Sabres fame walks in and spots my buddy because his uncle and Tony are friends or some shit............whatever, it added to our "backstage credibility"! It was that very second that the Security Gaurd who booted me out of the Zone walked in and starting giving me a hassle! Who comes to my rescue, non other than Chris Brown !!!! Me and Chris had met at the Meet and Greet at Darien Lake and obviously must have remembered me! I flash my pass and Chris says "he's cool"! That asshole (Chip) leaves me alone!! I talk up Chris and have a really really nice conversation with him, he is so cool!! I tell him I am going to Erie and he says I am more than welcome to drop his name at the Backstage Door and he will take care of things!! GOD DAMN!!!! Chris is the man!!!
So, I then give a quick LEFT HANDED handshake to Johnny and talk
up Gord S. about a bunch of things! WE allude to "Get Back Again" and he
says that there has been a huge want for that song. He says that most everyone
he talks to is requesting that song and that he and the band actually had
a conversation about it before the show!! He says they need to relearn
it, "Maybe I have to go onto Napster so we can listen to it again"!!
Anyway , he takes off and who walks in but GORD D. with his hoodie and
huge backpack!! He immediatly comes over to me and my buddy Pat!
We are talking to Gord and this time it
is really different than before! He seems alot more at ease and seems
genuinally interested in us being there! My buddy says can I ask
you a question, maybe you will think it is dumb, GORD replies" There are
no dumb questions, just dumb answers" I thought that was cool! So
he says goodbye and thanks for coming. He takes off his hoodie to expose
an old beat up " 1975 Buffalo Sabres Prince of Wales Championship" Tshirt
with Gilbert Perrault on it. I say "Gord, I thought your allegiance
lies with the Bruins!", he says "Not tonight, look at these guys"!
I say " I don't think Harry will be happy with that (for those who don't
know, Gord's godfather is Harry Sinden, GM of Bruins)! Gord got a
pretty good chuckle out of that and really seemed surprised I knew that
little tidbit! So, the Hospitality room empties and I say one last
goodbye to Paul L. who is grabbing an extra Heineken!!
What can I say??, (not to brag) but before the tour I looked back and said to my self "Self, you have been to 15 Hip shows all over the place, seen a soundcheck, met the band 5or 6 times, got pics and autographs, rode an elavator with Gord, Rob, and Johnny, and even requested a song that they obliged to playing. The only thing I haven't done is been backstage!!" Well, I am glad I got that out of the way and don't really have to worry bout it for the rest of the tour!! Thanks to the BOYS for a great show and a GREAT NITE!!
* Side note, I must be really lucky bc on the way home to Buffalo I got pulled over doing 84mph in a 55zone!! NO ticket for me after some heavy BS!!
Stay Hip

Hey all,
Sorry this is so late in the day, but I had some urgent things to deal
with at work upon getting back into town. Anyways, the Rochester show...happy
birthday to me! Easily my best birthday present ever. The night started
at The Old Toad, where my sister and I met up with Jeff, Todd and Nathan
for pregame festivities. Besides having the coolest name of a bar in Western
New York, the food was great and the guiness was draft (the service, though,
was merely a rumor). I was feeling all good about my having seen eight
shows till I hear Todd and Jeff talk about this being their 40th.
Then the show...and the boys were on right from the start. The break
did them well, because they were tight, energetic and on right from the
start. Too bad the PA guy wasn't. Gord's vocals weren't on at the start
of Grace, sending a wave of panic over me. But they came on just in time
for "that's what I'm here for." Perfect.
The rest of the show was spectacular, as always. Inch an Hour and Long
Time Running were pleasant suprises, as was Greasy Jungle (the first Hip
song I ever heard, seen live only once). Bobby was very on, and Gordie
was Gordie.
Chris and Kate played well. I love the keyboards at the start of giftshop.
Kate's singing of Flamenco was very cool, I thought. As for the other songs
she sang on, some were good, others not so good. It ain't perfect, but
it's rock and roll.
All in all, it was a great show, and fun meeting some fellow henhousers.
To the others I didn't see, apologies (Meghan, I hope you got that paper
done!). Enjoy this tour, kids. It should be a beauty.

I have to admit I'm a bit bummed about the show last night. I rate
the shows on performance, set list and sound quality.
Performance is a given, an "a" every time. My main issue is with the
setlist. The "Evening with The Hip" concept had me believing I would at
least hear one "Oh My God" Song and it never really happened. Sure Long
Time and Inch an Hour were great but hardly a suprise since they've been
creeping into the set over the summer. Of course i didn't expect to hear
Highway Girl but at least Unplucked Gems (GordS Quit teasing us with that
bass riff ! I can't take it again).
There is a few tunes that need to disappear from the set too....
I would much rather hear Completists every night than Little Bones,
Ugh.
Than again, maybe I've just seen them too many times......
=================================================================================
As far as shows go, this was the 6th one I've seen, and the 3rd one
this year. Only 1 other show was worse than this one, and that was
Darien Lake this summer. That was mainly becuase of the sound, and
not the band. I think I'm getting way too much into the Hip and have seen
them too many teams, as I I'm expecting more from their shows. But,
I thought they sounded a little off and out of synch at times, and was
hoping for a better set list. Plus, I'm getting more annoyed with the crowds.
Let Gordie sing the songs. I can understand singing with some, such
as Grace and New Orleans, but lets let the man do his thing. There
are too many bandwagoners coming to the shows now, who only know the popular
tunes, and have never heards songs like Fire in the Hole, which I thought
sounded great, by the way...I don't think most would know a good show if
it hit them in the head. I just saw the setlist from Syracuse, and that's
what I would like to have heard. Songs like El Dorado, Thugs, Opiated
(man I really would have liked to heard this one), and Gems would have
made the night.
I like the new album, and enjoy it more and more. Songs like
Train, Tiger the Lion, and the Completists are great, and are even better
in concert. I thought they sounded real good on these.
But, songs like 100th Meridian, New Orleans and Little Bones get worse
everytime I see them, and Rochester was no exception. I dig the rapping
and mixing it up during the songs. But, it almost sounds like they
are playing these songs because the crowd wants to hear them, and they
just knock them off. I would rather hear other songs that they are
into playing, rather than hear these ones sound rushed, out of synch, and
without enthusiasm.
Maybe I'm just getting too critical and have seen too many shows, but
I think the show could have been better.
A fan,
Peter

so. after all night driving and a full day of sleeping thru class...this
is what i can muster up about the shows(im not sure that even makes sense):
gary, i'm with you that the auditorium theater in roch. looks like a high
school. i drove by it 3 or 4 times, too. we sat in the 3rd row bobby/gord
s. side. just where i like it. and bobby did not disappoint. he was on
fire all night-really stood out on greasy jungle, hundredth, and completists.
oh, and steph robson-remember the short, rather large man, who does a heck
of a lot of saluting and "reaching out" to the band? the one you had
to ask to get down off his seat at darien? well, he was there-right in
front of me and man, was he entertaining. turns out he was at syracuse,
too, and it turns out rob and silirat spotted him in boston this summer.
anyhow...setlist was great. this was the 2nd time i've seen long time running
and i had chills the whole time. the only thing that really "knocked me
over the head" so to speak, was inch and hour. only because on the drive
up, justin and i were discussing what long shots we thought they'd
pull out, and i said, "ya know? i'd really like to hear inch an hour"...
so imagine my surprise. it was nice running into people i only know from
shows, todd, good to see you again, and sorry i missed ya brian... i was
looking. oh, and i did get my paper done. it was good, too:)
drove straight to syracuse afterwards and immediately went to sleep
on the floor in my bro's apartment there.
