Put simply, the show kicked ass! This was the 3rd time I've seen the
Hip (all on the Henhouse tour) and this show was equal if not better
than the others. I'm American and seeing this show with 10,000
Canadians was a great experience. However, I would highly, hgihly
recommend seeing the Hip stateside sometime. I caught them once in
Boston and once in Philly this summer, and really it's just more
exciting to be 3 feet from Gordie than 300.
Other stuff:
Grace was pretty standard but I did hear Gord singing a few lines of
John Lennon's 'Imagine' toward the end. Twist was a nice surprise.
ABAC was a bit sped up and sounded really cool.  Courage was
incredible.  Stereo has changed a lot since I first heard a piece of
in Boston in May and is going to be a keeper. Scared was beautiful.
And with another Beatlesque reference Gord started singing Paul's
"Band on the Run" after a fan jumped on the stage at the start of
Fire. Locked was awesome! A very solid show, but I do have one
complaint. All the songs were very straight ahead with little of the
jamming/experimentation I saw in Boston and Philly. As I've said about
five times so far though, a great, great show! The Hip _are_ amazing.
See them! I can't wait until they come Stateside again. Thanks for
listening to me babble...

Whoowee.  Just got back from the show.  I'll tell you, most of the time
this town is back asswards on about everything, but we do love the Hip.
Fifth tour in a row they've sold out down here-- not like they're playing
the Rose Bowl or anything, but we like it that way, and I bet most of you
would, too....

Selected highlights from the show:

Paul somehow manages to have at least 1" of ash hanging off his cigarette
at all times during the show.

During one of the songs in which Gord plays guitar (Springtime?  I can't
remember), the guy in front of me strips off his shirt and tosses it at
the stage.  It lands in the crook of Gord's right elbow and sticks there.
Gord is playing-- he can't remove it, so a roadie does.  All get a good
chuckle out of it except the security guard, but Gord waves him down
before he boots the guy.

"Sedona [AZ] is the second vortex.  It has to be... it HAS to be!"-- Gord.
A little background:  they just filmed the video for Gift Shop up in
Sedona.  Apparently, the bus (yes, THE bus) caught on fire.  No word on
the damage....

Gord introduces Mark Vreeken (I'm pretty sure it was him) during the show:
"This is my son... his name is Davey."  I'm quite sure it wasn't his son.

During the first encore, Gord got a little concerned when some joker gave
a security guard (the same one from above) a wethead with a beer bottle
from 10 feet.  Nice shot.  Again, a good chuckle, and calmer heads
prevailed.

The backdrop to the stage is a wall with a large mural of a koala bear
with sunglasses propped on top of his head, a kangaroo w/baby in pouch,
and an aborigine with a painted face and a Billy Idol spiked 'do (the club
is called The Outback).  I figured it was good for a comment for sure (in
fact, I bet a buck on it), but when the stage lights came up, you couldn't
really see it.  Disappointing, but not as disappointing as Coconut Cream.
I REALLY don't get that song.  On the other hand, I finally do get
Springtime in Vienna.  Groovy.

NOIS was... terse; hardly longer than the studio cut, with very little
improvisation. It was a real treat getting to see Little Bones again,
though.  Overall, a great show (as expected), and I think I've finally
sold my wife on them....
