I have made an extra attempt to get tonight's setlist correct (how did I miss Little Bones??), also I sincerely hope no replies to this or any of my posts will cause any more viruses to break out, otherwise the board of health may have to get involved.

2 hrs 40 min, 30 songs, and only 12 repeats from Thursday night in Phoenix! A very memorable pair of shows, different but equally riveting.  I hope some good recordings will surface.  However, I don't think Cameron wants to wager on anything else with me for fear he'll have to sign over his house.

As a few of my friends and I were waiting in the lobby to eat dinner at Club Congress, across the street from Rialto Theatre, in saunters a non-descript Gordon Downie, much to my amazement, along with a cute blonde disguised in raincoat and hat-who turned out to be the backup singer (my apologies for not knowing the name at present!).

Somehow able to keep our composure we simply smiled at each other and realized this was a good omen for the night.

The Hip proceeded to play nearly 2 1/2 hours of incendiary rock n roll, with a short break in between two set lets that smartly culled tunes from the Hip's back catalogue such as Last of the Unplucked Gems, Fire in the Hole, and the Inevitability of Death.

All in all and excellent show, the likes of which we don't often see here in the Pueblo.

Here's hoping the Hip will be back on a swing leg of the tour in the Spring.

Regards-

Martin

Just a few thoughts on the Tucson show:

- Lost to Ed again, good thing I'm fabulously rich
- Another great setlist, different from Phoenix fully and completely
- There were times I thought I was in Gino, Sweden '94 !!! (unplucked, greasy jungle, inevitability)
- Wish I would have brought my video camera, our balcony view was awesome
- Kate is still bewildering to me, Chris mostly non-existent as well
- Everyone in the band was on, in the pocket
- Livi, I don't understand, between Phoenix and Tucson I saw Daddy, Titanic, Sherpa, Wheat, Boots, Daredevil, Flamenco, Locked, Scared, Long Time, Pigeon, Unplucked, Greasy, Opiated, Twist, and Inevitability, this is a full show unto itself for god's sake!!!! and it definitely qualifies as bringin' out some of the old
- Greasy Jungle was the highlight of the show for me, Johnny was unbelievable
- Got to hear Wild Mountain Honey
- Hope someone got a good tape!!!!

This may have been my favorite show of all time, although it's hard to say. These two shows back to back re-confirmed my "best live band ever" theory. The varying setlists and song archive that is ready to be played at any given time just defies comprehension.  Not only are they willing to play anything from a group of 60- 70 songs, they do it flawlessly without missing
a beat.

I was at Tucson show and I happen to win back stage passes. I talked to the whole band including Kate for quite some time and I  have to tell you that she is a major Hip fan herself. I asked her if it was hard to get up there with your idles and do your job and she said she was still amazed to be up there with the band. She also said she was kind of hesitant at first due to what the fans might think. I happen to notice that sometimes when Gordon was ranting she had some strange looks on her face.  I asked her if she was piped in to what Gordon was saying and she told me she hears every word. I wonder if any of us could do what she is doing even though we would all like to get up there ourselves. Besides who isn't singing along ?

Here's my (our) Arizona reviews. A little late, but we just got home. Four hour layover in Denver. Ugh. This will likely be longer than 3 paragraphs.
Sorry if you can't handle that. I'll try to keep the words short so as not to work any brains too hard.

TUCSON
So, within 15 minutes of being in Tucson, we saw an armed takedown of a very young looking guy with a gun. Never seen someone do that before. Phoenix was amazing. Tucson was MIND BLOWING. We were front and more or less center. The crowd was incredibly spirited and enjoying every minute, but didn't feel the need to ruin it for everyone else by, you know, knocking us over or anything. How very odd. Brian was completely blissed out during Nautical Disaster and Scared was amazing with Kate taking a verse (again, a huge cheer from the audience). Once again, it was "get Ralph Nader to sing my eulogy" (after the show, we overheard a guy asking Paul if that was the original lyric). Last of the Unplucked Gems was spectacular. We both thought it was going to be just a teaser, so when Gord started to sing, we exchanged these shocked looks. Inevitability of Death was great. The whole concert was just unbelievable. Afterwards, we talked to Gord, Rob, and Paul. Brian had never met any of them before, and Gord signed his banana (figuratively, of course). We got dubbed the "Super Fans" by the other people hanging around once they found out we'd gone all the way to Arizona to see The Hip and then came straight home. I think we should just be deemed mentally unstable is all. To my list of Gord quotes on signed things, I got to add "Respect." (The others over the years have been "Brood and bloom" and "The making of the men") Both Gord and Paul said there'd probably be Phantom Power-like zones by donation again this time for the Canadian tour.

Okay, this was really long, and I didn't do the experience justice. Brian keeps telling me I've used the word "amazing" too often, but I can't think of another one that works as well. I'm still kind of numb. And happy.

Oh, from a random survey of Arizonians, Canada is known as being really cold, really beautiful, and full of beautiful women. I thought it was interesting.
