I was hoping someone else would post a review knowing that mine would suck.. But here goes:

I enjoyed seeing The Watchmen and wished that they could have played a longer set (we missed half of it) and I was definitely surprised at how many Great Big Sea fans there were. For their set I was convinced that more people were there to see them then the Hip but of course once the Hip came on I was proved very wrong.

So while the crowd had lots of people there to see the Hip there seemed to be few big hip fans in the front and we were treated to the usual assortment of drunk people (even though there was no beer tent) pushing through to the front. There was also a lot of crowd surfing. There must have been at least 5 people who passed over my head. And up front was certainly packed tighter than all the other shows I've been to this year.

The Hip were good. Not great, but certainly not bad. I'm not going to even take a stab at the set list but this being my fifth show this year I must say I was a little disappointed with the setlist because I'm pretty sure I had already heard all the songs previously this year. So when I got home I spent some time reading through their setlists trying to see which songs they've been playing that I hadn't yet heard and I must admit there's very few. I'm not really complaining, just wishing they'd dig just a little bit deeper into previous unplayed material.

Two of the song highlights of the show was they played the first bit of unplucked gems as a lead into dire wolf, and 100th meridian had a good deal of fairly audible ranting in the middle.

Okay so I lied here is a stab at the set list:

Great show...heard a "It's as far away now as it'll ever be" line early on about the end of summer and a "laminar flow" bit too.Ý Show started at 7 and was over at 8:40...it only got dark towards the encore. It was cool and different to see them come on stage in daylight. Sound was great for a big show...Gord's vocals came through very clearly. Several tapers kicking around the soundboard area.

Opened with Silver Jet...New Orleans...My Music at Work

The rest is out of order and by album
Blow--final song of the night
Little Bones
Last of the Unplucked Gems!!!
Wheat Kings
100th Meridian -- with "Life is Forgetting" in the middle
Grace, Too
Nautical
Gift Shop
ABAC
Springtime ("an end of summer song")
Poets
Bobcaygeon
FireworksÝ "loosening my grip on Raymond Bourque"
Are You Ready
Use It Up
Good Life
Dire Wolf
The Dark Canuck
-Tim T.

I thought it was a good show, aside from people with their lawn chairs. I managed to be up front for the entire show (all 3 bands) and aside from people pushing and shoving trying to get to where there "friends" are, it was awesome. Gord was classic, even danced like a peacock! If anyone wants to see some pics, i can post them or send them to someone who has a website and can post them there.

I had a great time. Great performances by all three bands.

I found Gord to be much more animated than the last few shows that I have seen (most recently both in Toronto). His facial expressions, and his antics made me laugh may times.
The guys in the band also caught my attention more this show than others. My favourite moment was during the intro to Poets; Gord D 'faked' the guys out and they sorta stretched the riff out one more time. Robby and Gord S. looked at one another and laughed.
Lawn chairs were a pain. I think allowing the chairs is great, but keep them back from the front of the stage. I saw numerous people fall over, or onto the people in their chairs. It just made for a lot of unhappy people.
The other thing I noticed was a lot of people who were intoxicated (booze or drugs, you choose) to the point of passing out. My buddy and I actually caught a guy who fainted. His buddies didn't seem to care. To quote them, "this BC bud is the best shit ever!!" Meanwhile their friend is out cold in our arms.
I saw a couple of tapers. Just to the side of the soundboard someone had about a ten foot mic stand, with a couple of blue capped mics.
Right next to me in front of the stage was a young guy with mics clipped to his ball cap. I only saw one video camera on a tripod. I would love to get a copy of the show if it is available.

Ps. Did any of the other attendees notice the large number of OPP officers? I was shocked.

Well, I ended up getting about 5 rows back from the stage, and from there, I thought the crowd was ten times better than the crowds I saw in Ottawa and Sarnia.... Everyone up there seemed to be belting out every line of every song.Ý Gord was definitely on... he was constantly giving funny looks throughout... very animated!Ý When he walked out on stage, he was gesturing smoking a joint, and then a big smile and wave (not sure if it was due to the smell up front, or...)
Before they played Grace... he came to the front of the stage and said something like "I just picked up this gun..." and then made a pistol motion with his hand, then tucked it into his belt as he walked back towards Johnny... then he'd give a few glances back at the crowd and make the motion as if he was taking it back out... I found it quite funny anyways. Other highlights have to be the first 2 or 3 verses of Last of the Unplucked Gems, before ripping into Dire Wolf. What else?Ý Prior to Dark Canuck, he talked
about how it was almost dark enough... and asked who was up for the dark canuck... stuff like that.Ý He was doing some crazy rants during 100th and nautical...laminar flow and the whole 'swim to me, not to her... then, not to me, to him'...

Overall, great show... the place went crazy for Blow at high dough!Ý

I have some really good shots from up close if anyone has a place I can post them....

Went to the show as well, was a good show but I felt that Gord was a little less "active" then when I saw then in TO in August.
The OPP is small town drama, they suck but did there job. I agree that the chairs should have been further back but still cool to allow then in. Was able to make it to about 30-40 feet from the stage as we didn't get in till GBS started.
Shuttle bus thing was kinda bogus but was well run and we managed to get back to our car within about 20 minutes from the show.
Favorite moment was when Gord was walking along the top of the monitors and "pulled out his gun" lol! that was classic Gord for sure. also the list was a good mix of older tunes with the new IVL stuff nicely sprinkled in. Was good to hear Gems even though it wasn't complete :) Does anyone have a setlist? I started to write them down but the crowd was getting to tight to do much.

Sincerely,

Scott Russell
