Hip Tracker Upload: 2006-07-12 – Utrecht, Netherlands – DVD

Hey fans… I recently learned about a glitch in the DVD burning software I used that eliminates the code to get the video to play properly on all screen sizes (full on a 16×9, letterboxed on a 4×3 screen).

But there is a fix! I’ve edited the files that needed to be changed. If you download the changed files and replace the ones you already have, your disc will play correctly.

The files are here: replacement-video_ts-files.zip

In January 2006 The Hip announced plans to tour Europe. On a whim I suggested that we get a group together and follow them. Little did I know that this suggestion would turn into the trip of a lifetime with 7 fellow Hip fans from across this great nation!

This show was on night two of our trek. Most of us had arrived in London, England on Thursday. We got acclimatized that day, and rested up for the next days events that evening. As soon as the Friday night show in London ended we made our way to our hotel, packed up our stuff and boarded a double decker bus and headed for Victoria Station to catch a train for Gatwick. We made it to the airport at 4:45 am and registered for a flight to Amsterdam at 6am. Made the flight, arrived in Amsterdam ready to hit the road in an 8 passenger van that Mark had booked for us. When we got to the rental counter, the attendant informed us that the van only sat 6! Without a van for eight, we took two small four seater cars and hit the road, bound for Belgium.

After many hours on the road, we arrived in Brugge, staked out the venue, and headed for Oostende where we had a hotel booked. We checked in, showered, ate and headed for the concert. The relaxed and positive atmosphere at The Cactus Festival was apparent as soon as we turned into town. We found a couple of parking spaces (free!!!) less than 100 yards from the entrance, loaded up our gear and entered the site.

Surrounded by happy concert-goers we took in the sights and smells and sounds. Filling up on great beer, and better-than-average concert food we readied ourselves for the show.

The venue was really odd; a park space surrounded by homes, with trees and playground equipment. The stage and soundboard were wedged in between the trees, and the people were every where else.

We found a space near the sound board to set up most of the gear, and then Dustin, Dave and I headed for the stage. In between acts the crowd disappeared completely so we were able to make it to the front with ease. As show time approached, the crowd returned, and the anticipation grew.

It was a great show with a couple of taping hiccups… as you’ll see in the video.

I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Just in from another great show. The Metropolis is an awesome venue, and the crowd seemed into it from the get go. We’re really looking forward to tonight as we plan to arrive earlier to get better positions for taping – specifically from the balcony. We recorded three video angles, and four or 5 audio sources last night. The first reviews of the video look good. The audio sounds really good. Look for these on the tracker in due time.
