Durham Daily News: Video from the Waterkeeper event in Whitby

Review: 2006-09-18 – Whitby, ON – Waterkeepers
I just got in from the Whitby event; what a great evening.
First off, visit http://www.waterkeeper.ca/ and learn how you can help.
Secondly, if you can go to one of these events, do it.
After a interesting and educational talk by two of the Waterkeepers the stage was turned over to Gord who strolled to the middle of the stage, sat down and picked up a guitar. He was funny and insightful, chatting with the audience rather than making a speech. In between his chats there were a couple of poems read by another artist (Tanis Rideout) and some interpretive dancing (Andrea Nann).
The following songs were performed:
Into The Night
My Name Is Figment
Willow Logic
Goodnight Josephine
The New Maybe
Christmastime In Toronto
Pretend
After the show all of the performers gathered in the lobby to discuss the issues with those in attendance.
VIDEO: In View
Just posted to thehip.com is the video for In View from the forthcoming album World Container.
World Container: Track Listing
What looks like the back of the album has been posted to thehip.com.
- Yer Not The Ocean
- The Lonely End Of The Rink
- In View
- Fly
- Luv(sic)
- The Kids Don’t Get It
- Pretend
- Last Night I Dreamed You Didn’t Love Me
- The Drop Off
- Family Band
- World Container
Clocking in at 42 minutes and 45 seconds it doesn’t look like The Hip wasted any time on extended jams or epic adventures like we sometimes see in concert. And judging by the track listing, I think that Gord’s comments about “writing an album about love” may come true.
During our conversation at the Holiday Jam last Christmas he mentioned that many of the songs they were working on were originally destined for another Gord Downie solo record but the guys in the band liked them so much that they decided to make the Hip songs. Over at Hipbase a couple of astute fans pointed out that “Love(sic)” was a Gord D poem not included in any of his previous solo ventures.
Colour of the Night – Richard Beland
After more that a decade of photographing The Tragically Hip, Richard Beland displays a rare collection of never-before-seen live and backstage photographcs. This selection has been made from more than 100 concerts, and also features an exclusive showcase of photos from the “In Violet Light” and “In Between Evolution” portrait sessions.
Starting on October 1 and running through November 26, fans will be able to view this retrospective at the Pikto Gallery in Toronto’s historic Distillery District.
