New Hip Album Title & Track List

Hi Folks,

Greetings to all. We have some very exciting news to deliver.

Our twelfth album, We Are The Same, will be released in North America on Tuesday, April 7th. The album was produced by Bob Rock and recorded primarily at the Bathouse Studio. It contains twelve new tracks that range from levity and light to melancholy and anger. We think it has a little bit for everyone and showcases the great range of the band.
The full track listing is:

Morning MoonWe Are The Same
Honey, Please
The Last Recluse
Coffee Girl
Now The Struggle Has A Name
The Depression Suite
The Exact Feeling
Queen of the Furrows
Speed River
Frozen In My Tracks
Love Is A First
Country Day

The opening track, “Morning Moon”, is now available to be streamed from our website, Facebook and MySpace page, as well as our iLike page.

Novelists Joseph and Amanda Boyden wrote the new album bio. Please have a read, we think it captures the essence of We Are The Same better then we could ever imagine articulating it ourselves.

ROCK THE PARK VI: The Kingston band headlines a July 23 show

Tragically Hip fits format change
Tue, February 3, 2009

By JAMES REANEY
A change in format has made it possible for the Hip to rock the park.

Through its first five editions as a weekend classic rock fest, the Harris Park outdoor summer party known as Rock the Park wasn’t the right fit for the Tragically Hip.

“We’ve been after them for two years,” says London concert promoter Brad Jones. Unlikely to be part of classic rock mix, the Tragically Hip is at home with Rock the Park’s new format. Each of three nights appeals to a different music market.

The Hip signed on last week as headliners on a July 23 rock night, bringing the iconic Kingston band back to the London region market for the first time since February 2007.

That was when Canada’s No. 1 rock band or Das Hip — both names by which they’re known — played the JLC.

“The first thing you notice about the Hip is that remarkable trait all great bands have — the band’s music is not carried by one person’s individual talent. Like the Stones, Led Zep, the Beatles and the Who, it is the collective that gives the band its sound and feel,” producer Bob Rock said of the sessions that led the Hip’s 2006 album World Container. The band has worked on another album at its Bathouse Studio near Kingston.

The Kingston-born quintet is fronted by Gord Downie and rounded out by guitarists Paul Langlois and Rob Baker, bassist Gord Sinclair and drummer Johnny Fay has been playing London for decades since forming in the 1980s.

Hip classics include Bobcaygeon, At The 100th Meridian and Ahead by a Century.

Like the first five editions of Rock the Park, this summer’s concert series is a fundraiser for Bethanys Hope Foundation.

It helps pay for London- and UWO-based research into metachromatic leukodystrophy, (MLD) a devastating progressive neurodegenerative disease.

The London foundation is named for Bethany Catherine McIntyre, who died in 2000, at the age of seven after a five-year struggle with MLD. The first five editions of Rock the Park raised more than $750,000 for the London-based Bethany’s Hope Foundation.

Stars visit Lake Louise in support of clean water charity event

By LISA WILTON, SUN MEDIA

Sharon Witcombe had to take a second look to make sure she wasn’t seeing things when Alec Baldwin skiied past her.

“It was strange because the other night, my husband and I had just been talking about how funny the show 30 Rock is and suddenly Alec Baldwin’s standing two feet away from us,” said Witcombe.

The Surrey, B.C., native had finished a run at Lake Louise Ski Resort when she spotted the actor, but admitted she was too starstruck to say anything him.

“I would have just put my foot in my mouth,” she said with a laugh.

Baldwin was participating in the final day of this year’s Waterkeeper Alliance Sports Invitational and Fundraiser, which began on Thursday at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.

The 50-year-old star of such films as Glengarry Glen Ross, The Departed and the critically acclaimed TV comedy 30 Rock competed in a giant slalom race along with such celebrities as ER star Juliana Margulies, former Beverly Hills 90210 actor Ian Ziering, Olympic gold medalist Al Joyner, actor-director Chad Lowe and Sopranos wiseguy Joe Pantoliano.

Baldwin was in good spirits and hammed it up in front of his fellow competitors and an Entertainment Tonight camera crew.

He was recently named best actor in a comedy series at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards and told the media that the show had been picked up for another season.

“We’re really happy about it,” he said. “It feels great.”

The Tragically Hip’s Gord Downie was scheduled to compete in yesterday’s slalom race but cancelled because of a hockey-related injury he sustained on Thursday night.

Downie was hit in the face with a puck and received a couple of stitches to close the wound near his eye.

A significant portion of the funds raised from this weekend’s charity event will go towards Waterkeeper initiatives in Canada.

“I don’t know how the economy will effect this year’s fundraiser,” said organizer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “But we’ll probably raise about a million dollars.”

The non-profit Waterkeeper Alliance was founded by Kennedy in 1999 as an umbrella organization to give scientific, legal and policy support to Riverkeeper, Baykeeper and Soundkeeper environmental associations. For more information visit http://www.waterkeeper.org
